come and explore Oxford with me ♥

Judith and Christine and I started at the Covered Market for our day of exploring in Oxford City !

We were then off on a 2 hour Oxford City walking tour. Warning these are random amazing pictures of the magic that is, Oxford City.

Below were pictures of the best part of the walking tour, St Mary's Passage. 

C.S Lewis started to form his ideas for The Chronicles of Narnia whilst in Oxford, the story goes that he walked out of St Mary's cathedral on a wintery night and looked upon this doorway.

This is the faun that inspired the character Mr Tumnus. 

This is the door that inspired Aslan. 

Here is the lantern that inspired the lamppost that Lucy finds after she passes through the wardrobe. 

Below was the bridge of sighs. Supposed to be modelled after the one in Venice.

After lots of walking around we went into what is called Keble college, one of the residential halls for students here at Oxford University! It was breathtaking! 

This was the chapel that Keble College proudly (rightfully so) has. 

A treasure which hangs in this magnificent building is the "Light of the World"by Holman Hunt.

There are two lights shown in the picture. The lantern is the light of conscience and the light around the head is the light of salvation with the door representing the human soul, which cannot be opened from the outside. There is no handle on the door, and the rusty nails and hinges overgrown with ivy denote that the door has never been opened and that the figure of Christ is asking for permission to enter. The bright light over the figure is the morning star, the dawn of the new day, and the autumn weeds and fallen fruit represent the autumn of life. The writing under the picture, which is rather hard to read, is taken from Revelation 3 'Behold I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in to him and will sup with him and he with me.'

Seriously! Imagine living at Keble College and going to classes everyday, what a dream!

The Sheldonian Theatre was next!

The Sheldonian Theatre was erected in 1664-8 to a design by Sir Christopher Wren and was described by the European Commission in 1994 as "one of the architectural jewels of Oxford". Its purpose was to provide an appropriate secular venue for the principal meetings and public ceremonies of the University, and this remains its purpose today.

It has a ceiling of 32 paintings that interlock and represent the fight of good vs evil. 

This is the view from inside the roof of the Sheldonian Theatre of Oxford. 

We ended our day tour with a trip to St Mary's and the adjoining gorgeous little cafe! 

That was one eventful day. I am so grateful for the experience so thank you again to my family who made this possible and I feel entirely blessed for all the good luck and good weather. Goodnight everyone, kisses. 

lost in london ♥ 13th of July

We left on the bus for London with no plan, no map and of course got lost. Sweltering under the heat and trying to get through the crowds was exhausting. I was armed with my Australian spirit and a beautiful coral dress!

Us leaving New College, Oxford. So optimistic, little did we know the day was going to be incredibly hot and the lines very long!

Below is Big Ben!

We caught the tube from Oxford Street to where Big Ben/Westminster Abbey and Westminster Parliament is situated. We walked across Westminster Bridge with the intent to go on the London Eye, but because it was a saturday the lines were unreal and it was not worth it.

We ended up going on a themed tour called the London Dungeon. 

Then the day was incredibly ended at an Italian restaurant called "La NotteRosa" near the famous shoppping area of Oxford Street.

Punting?

A punt is a flat-bottomed boat, typically used in small rivers and canals. It is propelled by pushing the river bed with a long pole. We, four brave students set out to attempt this mode of leisurely transportation.. We ended up not using a pole and used oars.. We saw swans and ducks and many other people punting down the river.

In Oxford it is a popular thing to do, with gorgeous lush surroundings which rewards the ones willing to do it with a sense of accomplishment when no one has drowned.
